in the first place? Studies indicate that people with a bachelor degree
earn more than those whose highest qualification is a high school diploma.
In fact, for graduates with a degree, jobs will offer up to double the
salary a high school graduate could expect.
And with advances in technology, research and our increased use of computers, it is important to keep up to date with developments, whatever field you are working in. Moreover, in an unstable economic climate, the more skilled you are, the more likely you are to be able to change jobs or careers. What do you need to think about
before starting one of the many online degree programs? First of all,
you need to be sure that you are following an accredited online bachelor
degree, as qualifications from unaccredited colleges are unlikely to be
recognized by employers.
Next you need to think about the implications of being an online student. Online teaching has progressed enormously over the last few years and uses interactive learning systems, which enable the student to learn using a variety of media, such as video, audio and online learning games, quizzes and exercises, as well as more traditional study by reading, writing and submitting assignments. An online campus is of course, very different from a traditional university or college and although there are forums, chat rooms which provide ways of contacting other students and staff, it is very different from face to face contact. So you need to be sure that you are able to work on your own, without the physical presence of tutors and other students to encourage and motivate you. Some distance learning courses do offer limited contact with others, such as summer schools. But one of the attractions of online learning, is that you can follow the syllabus of a particular college without moving to the area in which it is locatec.
